I’m in my first year of college, but I’m already a sophomore in terms of credits. Last year I received the maximum amount of financial aid from the FAFSA because my mom has 3 kids and a low income. I’m engaged and want to get married soon, but I’m worried I won’t get the same financial aid benefits. An important aspect is that neither I nor my fiance work and earn any income. Let me know please. Thank you.

Financial aid questions: answered. Practical advice on financial aid questions from Douglas Christiansen, Vanderbilt’s associate provost for enrollment and dean of admissions at Vanderbilt University. In a series of short and direct video clips, Christiansen uses his 20 years of experience in admissions leadership roles to help students and parents understand the financial aid process and what questions to ask financial aid officers at any school. Christiansen tackles questions such as, What should we ask about a schools financial aid program? What is an Estimated Family Contribution or EFC and how is my EFC used at different schools? My family is doing OK financially, is it worth applying for financial aid? Christiansen also talks about why its important to ask if a school is need blind or need aware and what impact asking lots of questions about financial aid could have on the admissions process.

I am attending a community college. I need to work a lot so Im only going 3/4 time instead of full time. Is it true that if you are in a community (2 year) college that financial aid will only pay for 2 years?

Well I live in NYC and im interested in transferring to an upstate NY school (Ithaca College, Skidmore, Geneseo, St Lawrence, etc), has anyone had any experience with financial aid packages they’ve received as a transfer student? Like do you receive the same aid package as if you had applied as a first year student or is the aid usually less than if you had applied as an incoming freshman? Thanks!
